A bit of website DIY

Why am I ditching a WordPress blog in favour of an essentially hard coded website? Quality, more than anything. I found the flexibility of WordPress had me writing sporadically, with no real thought for what I was saying. Some weeks I'd post many little snippets, then months would go by without so much as a peep. This tends to be how I communicate naturally when left to my own devices and my Facebook status updates mirror the pattern.

Perhaps by consolidating everything into - for want of a better word - articles on the various subjects I might actually publish some half decent content onto the web, rather than the occasional half-cocked rant. I don't need half the functionality that a "one size fits all" platform like WordPress gives me. I don't need user comments. Here's a crazy idea: People could email me their opinions if they really cared! I don't need tags as some basic categories should be just fine, if I even bother with that. Frankly, I don't need the ease of use either. It's probably miles better for me to be forced to play around with code and databases than it is to have my hand held by some warm and fuzzy admin interface. The markup wasn't nearly as tight as it could have been on my old site anyway.

I love WordPress, I really do. It's an amazing tool, but it's not for me right now.

So, I'm going to port any really useful stuff over, let the rest go and let's see if I can follow through with this vague resolution to do things properly.
